Millers Creek Christian School: Growing in Faith, Vision, and Impact

Millers Creek Christian School (MCCS) began in 1997 as a preschool. Thanks to the success of that program, word quickly spread throughout the community, prompting the need for expansion to serve more families and meet the growing needs of our students.

Under the leadership of Pastor Jim Gore and Pastor Shannon Critcher, the first phase of our expansion was completed in 2006: the Educational Wing. This new space allowed us to welcome students from age 1 through 12th grade. In May 2011, we proudly celebrated the graduation of our first senior class.

Since the addition of the Educational Wing, our student body has continued to grow. The MCCS Board of Directors remains committed to meeting current needs while prayerfully planning for the future. At present, we offer one class per grade level; however, due to increasing enrollment, a long-term goal is to provide two classes per grade. To support this vision, MCCS must expand further by building a new educational building, a gymnasium, and a larger cafeteria.

Preparing for the Future

Our current gym, the Wilhelmina Triplett Gymnasium, is used daily for PE and Health classes, After School Care, and athletic practices. While it serves us well, it is not regulation size and cannot accommodate more than one PE class at a time. To support our growing athletic programs, we have been fortunate to rent the Bumgarner Gymnasium at Wilkes Community College for official events.

After much prayer and planning, the board determined that our next step should be to construct a new gymnasium and cafeteria before adding the second educational building. However, after consulting with civil engineers and architects, it was concluded that our current campus at 5100 Boone Trail could not support this expansion due to space limitations and parking requirements.

In a providential turn, property located just down the road at 4705 Boone Trail became available and was acquired in May 2024.

Honoring the Past, Building for the Future

Initial plans aimed to repurpose the existing buildings on the newly acquired former Methodist Church property. However, after thorough inspections revealed serious issues with the wiring, foundation, steeple, and fellowship hall structure, the board made the difficult decision to demolish the buildings in winter 2024.

To honor the property’s heritage, MCCS carefully preserved the original stained glass windows. These cherished pieces will be incorporated into the design of the new gymnasium, allowing the legacy of the past to shine on in a meaningful way.

The new gymnasium will serve as a hub for athletic practices and games, school-wide events, and graduation ceremonies. Once completed, the next phase will focus on constructing a new educational building to house Kindergarten through 8th grade on the 4705 Boone Trail campus. These students will also use the new gym for daily PE and Health classes. Meanwhile, preschool and high school students will remain at the 5100 Boone Trail campus, which will provide them with more dedicated space as the school continues to grow.

Join Us in Our Mission

We are excited about the opportunities ahead as MCCS expands its ministry across two campuses. With deep gratitude for God’s provision and our supportive community, we invite you to partner with us. Your prayers and financial support will help us continue providing a Christ-centered education to students in Wilkes and the surrounding counties.

Together, let’s build a future that honors the Lord and equips the next generation for lives of faith and service!
