MILLERS CREEK BAPTIST CHURCH STATEMENT ON MARRIAGE AND SEXUALITY
We believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning and that marriage is sanctioned by God which joins
one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union for a lifetime, as delineated in Scripture.
We believe that God intends sexual intimacy to only occur between a man and a woman who are married to each other.
We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman.
We believe that any form of sexual immorality, including but not limited to, adultery, fornication, homosexuality, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, rape, pornography or any attempt to change one’s sex, or disagreement with one’s biological sex, is sinful and offensive to God.
We affirm God’s good design that gender identity is determined by one’s God-given biological sex and not by one’s self-perception—a perception which is often influenced by fallen human nature in ways contrary to God’s design (Ephesians 4:17-18); we oppose efforts to alter one’s bodily identity (e.g., cross-sex hormone therapy, gender reassignment surgery) to refashion it to conform with one’s perceived gender identity.
We believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of the church as the Body of Christ, and to provide a biblical role model to the church members and the community, it is imperative that all persons employed by the church in any capacity, or who serves as volunteers, should abide by and agree to this Statement on Marriage and Sexuality and conduct themselves accordingly.
We will allow no marriage ceremonies, weddings, “civil unions”, or other such proceedings in the buildings or on the grounds of this church that do not conform to God’s standards for marriage and the family.
We require that all clergy and staff personnel of this church adhere to the teachings of God’s Word regarding the nature
of marriage and the family, and any services they conduct on these grounds or elsewhere must reflect that commitment. Any visiting clergy conducting weddings on these premises must likewise be in agreement with this policy and abide by it. “Outside” ministers are subject to approval by the church/pastor prior to their coming to perform a wedding ceremony.
We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
We believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect and dignity. Hateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with scripture nor the doctrines of the church (Leviticus 18:22; Romans 1:26-27; I Corinthians 6:9).
We seek as a church family to uphold the sanctity of marriage and the integrity of the family as God ordained them, and we will encourage and lead others to do the same.
