Preschool and Preschool Staff
Our preschool is a state-licensed program that uses the Abeka curriculum for Reading, Writing, Math, and Biblical instruction. Students learn foundational skills that prepare them to begin reading in PK4. They learn Bible verses weekly and songs throughout the year. PK4 participates in choir with K5 students and performs at MCCS concerts. The preschool staff loves working with children, teaching them Biblical truths, and watching them develop academic and social-emotional skills throughout the year.
Kayla Blackburn | PK1 Teacher
I am the Lead Teacher in the Prek-1 class. I am married to my wonderful husband Aaron and we have an almost 2 year old son named Elijah. I enjoy spending time with my family, going on picnics and reading in my spare time. I am thankful the Lord led me to Millers Creek Christian School where I can teach children about the Love of God!
Jennifer Church | PK1 Teacher's Assistant
I'm married and I have two children, and I enjoy working with children. I also like to read and eat a box of chocolate.
Patsy Malay | PK2 Teacher
I am married with two daughters and two grandsons. I have been in the teaching field for forty-nine years. I was born and raised in West Virginia, but I also lived in Kansas before moving to North Carolina.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 are my life verses! My husband is the love of my life. His name is Matthew and we have a gorgeous daughter named Holly! God has truly blessed our family. I am a Country Girl who loves to ride four wheelers, drive tractors, big trucks, and get down and dirty! Sea turtles and goats are my favorite. I love cheeseburgers, sweet tea, coffee, and ice cream! I am from Marion, Va and moved here in 2016. I graduated from Marion Senior High School in 2010. I am the only one in my family who is not in the medical field in some way or form.
Courtney Cleary | PK3 Teacher
I am in my second year of teaching at MCCS. I attend Bethel Baptist Church in North Wilkesboro and serve in various ministries. I recently got married in February, 2021.
Esther Newsome | PK3 Teacher's Assistant
My name is Esther Newsome. I have been married to my wonderful husband, Adam for six years. We serve the Lord in various ways at Cherry Grove Baptist Church. This is my second year here at MCCS.
Poppi Welborn | PK4 Teacher & PK4/K5 Choir Director
I have been teaching at MCCS since 2013, and in K4 since 2014. I love my job and this school! If I could describe myself in one word it would be PINK: it's my favorite color and makes me truly happy! I have been married to my Prince Charming, Ray, for 17 years, and we have two sons, Bryson and Brenyn, who both attend MCCS. I am blessed to have a fantastic family support system consisting of my mama, mother and father-in-law, sister, two brothers-in-law, two sisters-in-law, three nephews, two nieces, a god-sister and her family to which I am an honorary aunt. I thank God for my time here, and look forward to seeing how He will continue to use and bless MCCS students, staff, and alumni.
Kayley Badgett | PK4 Teacher's Assistant & Summer Camp Director
My name is Kayley and I work as the PK-4's Teaching Assistant alongside Mrs. Poppi. I am 24 years old and I have been married to my husband, Cole, for almost two years. We are expecting our first child (Katy Jo) in August of this year! I attended MCCS from Kindergarten through 12th grade, graduating in 2015. My husband is also an MCCS alum (2014). I have been working at MCCS in some fashion since I was 15 years old. I started out working Elementary after care, then moved to Preschool aftercare for several years. Next, I became a substitute teacher full time, then assisted in Kindergarten, and now have been in PK-4 for three years. I have also worked at Summer Camp for eight years, serving as Director for the last three. MCCS is a very special place for me, as I have made many friendships, both in school and in the workplace, and my mom (DeLisa Anderson-Art), sister (Alivia Anderson-Aftercare), and mother-in-law (Regina Badgett-Secretary) all work here. I am currently obtaining my BS in Birth to Kindergarten Education, with a concentration in Early Childhood from Western Carolina University. I have a passion for small children and absolutely love my job!
